Python packages

Install Python packages through Depot's simple index and upload distributions to its upload endpoint. Use the built-in pypi cache for PyPI dependencies or a Virtual repository for both private and upstream packages.

First set DEPOT_TOKEN. Replace team with a Virtual repository that includes PyPI, or use pypi for the built-in cache. Publishing requires a Private or writable Virtual repository.

Use environment variables with uv

Add a named index to pyproject.toml:

Use a Virtual repository containing PyPI when making it the default index. With a DEPOT_TOKEN supplied by your environment, set:

export UV_INDEX_DEPOT_USERNAME=__token__
export UV_INDEX_DEPOT_PASSWORD="$DEPOT_TOKEN"
uv sync
UV_PUBLISH_TOKEN="$DEPOT_TOKEN" uv publish --index depot

Use environment variables with pip, Poetry, and twine

For pip, pass the authenticated index through the environment:

export PIP_INDEX_URL="https://__token__:${DEPOT_TOKEN}@packages.depot.dev/<org-id>/pypi/team/simple/"
python -m pip install requests

Prefer a Virtual repository as the single index instead of adding a private index with --extra-index-url. pip considers candidates from all indexes, which can let an upstream package replace a private name. See pip authentication.

For Poetry, configure installation and publishing separately:

poetry config repositories.depot https://packages.depot.dev/<org-id>/pypi/team/legacy/
export POETRY_HTTP_BASIC_DEPOT_USERNAME=__token__

poetry install

A primary source disables Poetry's implicit PyPI source. Use a repository that includes the upstream packages you need. See Poetry repositories.

For twine:
