Back in September, we started brainstorming different ideas we could add to Depot to make it easier for people to sign up and get going. One of our underlying goals is to make it as easy as possible to use Depot. This is one of the reasons that we made it straightforward to try it out in your existing workflows. Just switch from docker build
to depot build
, and you're ready to try it out.
In our background as Software Engineers, we have always enjoyed snappy tools that have intuitive UX, and are easy to get started with.
So, when it came time to brainstorm different ideas for making other areas of Depot simpler and easier to use, we honed in on making the sign-up process rapid. Until this point, you could only create an account with Depot with a username and password. But, as common as that is, even that can be a barrier for some people. So, we decided to add support for logging in with Google and Microsoft accounts.
This is the first in a series of incremental changes we will be making to the onboarding process for Depot. Expect to see some additional modifications in the coming weeks as we look to make it effortless to plug Depot into your existing workflows and get faster builds with minimal effort.
This is a small change, but it's one that, we think, will make it easier for more people to try out Depot. We hope you enjoy it!
